“Why should we hire you?” is not asking for a generic compliment about yourself. The interviewer wants to know whether you understand the role, can create value, and have evidence to support your confidence.
A strong answer has three parts
- Match — name two or three role requirements you can meet
- Proof — give evidence from projects, work, internships, or measurable results
- Confidence — explain how you will contribute after joining
Example answer
“You should hire me because this role needs someone who can build reliable features, communicate clearly, and learn fast. In my last project, I owned the frontend for a reporting dashboard, worked closely with backend APIs, and reduced page load issues by improving data fetching. I may still have areas to grow, but I am consistent, practical, and comfortable taking ownership from problem to delivery.”
What not to say
- “Because I really need this job”
- “Because I am the best candidate” without proof
- “Because I am hardworking and passionate” without examples
- A long answer that does not connect to the role
Make the answer role-specific
Before the interview, read the job description and choose proof that matches it. MockFlux can help you practice a version for your target role and get feedback on whether the answer sounds specific and convincing.
